In the Government "Gazette" of June. 17, appears an order notifying the inten tion of the Governor-in-Council to con stitute certain land a " Railway Constru- - tion District" under the name of the " Alexandra Township ITailway Construc tion District." Unless a petition be received within one month from above date "prayipg that such district be not constituted, and that the Alexandra rail= way be not constructed, the district will be proclaimed." the land to be taken in comprises the whole of the parishes of Eildon, Acheron. LAST SATURDAY'S GAMES. BY ONLOOKER. Johnson's Creek v. Alexandra. The above match was played on the show grounds on Saturday last, and, as was expected, a gool game resulted. There was a large attendance, and the match was won by the small margin of one point in favor of Johnson's Creek. When both teams were lined up, :Alexandra appeared to have the stronger team, whilst the Creek were without the .,services of two of their regular players. he game was started punctually, and as fast from the beginning. Complimentary Social to Constable Brooker. There was a large gathering of friends and admirers at Wood's Corner Hotel on Friday evening last, to say good-bye and nake a prosertation to Constable T. Brooker, on the eve of his departure for Eldorado, after a residence in Alexandra of six years. A. very pleasant evening was spent in song and story. Constable 'Brooker wag well-known throughout the district as a thorough sportsman and gained his well-earned popularity by the keen interest he always took in such matters. The removal of Constable Brooker to Eldorado means promotion, he being in charge of the station. Those responsible for moving in the. matter and arrangins of presentation are Messrs Matthews, E.
