MOTORING AND CYCLING NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 21 January 1927

MOTORING AND CYCLING NOTES. It fa many years sinee we first ■ heard tli ~ opinion expressed that the ! coming of tho cheap car would wipe the motor cycle and especially the sidecar combination out of existence. The opinion has been reiterated time and again, but the number of motor cycles aud sidecars go on increasing and they loook like continuing to do so. When it is realised that the motor cycle combination of about_ 4 h.p. often carries as many as four pas sengers with a remarkable degree of comfort and speed, ibis form of vehicle calls for the serious attention of the motorist of moderate means. Given a machine of good grade, coach built two-passenger sidecar, and a comfortable pillion seat on the back o? the motor cycle, there is no reason why an outfit of this kind should not prove entirely satisfactory for the I family man, whether for long or short j journeys. Whatever one may say ' about the unbalanced appearance of the sidecar combination, or the ap parent disadvantages f...

WOOL CHARACTER. EXPERT EXPLANATION. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 21 January 1927

WOOL CHARACTER. EXPERT EXPLANATION. A word frequently used in describ ing wool, particularly by those inter ested in it from a manufacturing point of v|ew, is "character." This is comprehensive phrase, and is used in the positive, comparative, or superla tive, according to the merits of the raw material in question. The word "character" does not de fine any particular feature of the wool, .says "The Westralian Farmers' Gazette," but is rather used to define a number of properties which may bo present in varying degrees. For instance, if a fleece of wool is of long, fine, and sound staple, and is also light in condition, that is if it contains only a comparatively small amount of grease, it is certain to be described from a manufacturing point of view of wool as wool of splendid character. Its combined length, soundness, and fitness of staph- will all contribute to , it being regarded as an extremely ae Sirable wool for spinning purposes. Offered In competition, it would to day be ea...
