BRISBANE. FRIDAY, October 10. The majority of the tenders for the con vcjancc of horse mails were recommended for acceptance yesterday. The coach te-n ders are considered too high, and fresh tenders with the alternative of horse r coach will probably be invited instead. The Government have made arrangements to resume immigration in December. Right vessels will leave Plymouth at intervals of one month. Their destination will be Bris bane and Northern ports alternately. The summons issued against the Oovricr (Uid the Qwmtlander for a breach of the Companic's Act of 18GS has been withdrawn by (he informer. It is stated that the coun sel retained refused to appear in support of the case.

Sir George Grey has resigned the leader ship of his party, and stales that for the future he will not accept a portfolio, but I merely exercise his personal influence ahonld his party regain office. It is veiy doubtful whether the Hell Ministry will retain office: for any considerable length of time.

VFHATEVEE diversity of opinion may exist among the different classes of people in this colony there is one matter upon which all axe agreed : that never was the colony in snch a depressed con dition, nor was money ever go scarce before. The same lamentable cry arises from all parts of the colony, from Bris bane in the south to'Cooktown in the north. Snakebite Cored by Whisky. THE ifcmphit 'valanclw (Tennessee) states that Mr. Bobert O. Pillow (eon of the late Gen. rillow), who is now running a planta tion over in Arkansas, and who came over yesterday to take a look at the 4th o£ July had a narrow escape {ran death not long einoe. Accompanied by Aleck, one of the Coloured men on the place, be ma oat hunt ing b wild hog that had been in the vicinity. Mr. Pillow had a gun, and Aleck had armed himself with a pint bottle filled with whisky. The hog was found and shot, and just as Mr. Pillow went op to the writhing animal an Immense cotton-mouth snake, whose bite is as fatal as that of a rattlesnake, fastened his tangs of the calf of his leg. As his Memphis friends know, Bob is not easily frightened. He took in the situation in a moment, and instead of exhibiting alarm he tamed to his companion and quietly remarked: " Aleck, I think I'll toy a little of that tohisky now," whisky being considered an infallible remedy.
