PA.RKS AND PLAYGROUNDS Last Monday a deputation representing the Executive Committee of the Parks and Play grounds Movement waited on the Minister for Lands and asked that a Board consisting of the Surveyor General and three or four repre sentatives of the Movement should be appoint ed to conduct a preliminary investigation into claims for additional playing areas in the city and suburbs. The Minister in -reply said that the Surveyor General had- investigated the matter and upon his Report the Government would act. He would consider the- proposal to appoint a Board of Enquiry. If, however, he did decide to appoint Board he would make it clear that the representatives of the Parks and Play grounds Movement could only act in an ad visory capacity.

The Convention will, be 'held .in Hobart and' every State of the 'Common- wealth will' be represented by delegates, ; who ; will be appointed within the next few weeks. It is expedted that the principal item to be discussed -will be Conditions of Contract, and it is hoped that federal Conditions will be finalised. . It is also expected that a number of visitors will be present, at the Convention, as , it is being held at an excellent time of! the year ' to provide a maximums of enjoyment for 'those attending. In fact, an attraction in Mel bourne on the Tuesday after the Convention will be the running of the Melbourne Cup.
