WEEKLY SENTINEL A SAY 1 Confiscation and Knianr ipation. We give op a Urge portion of our reading pace this morriug to the able and conservative speech upon the subject of confiscation and emancipation, questions which are destined to occupy public attention and perhaps become the main issue in the elections next fall, by Judge Collaxeb, of Vermont, an accomplished jurist and statesman, and probably the foremost man of the Republican party in the United States Senate. The sentiments and arguments of this distinguished Senator, who life long has stood in opposition to the Democratic party, we commend to the caretul attention of all "good citizens," "without distinction of party." They are wise, humane and just, and differ in toto from the rabid Republicans who seek to convert the war, in violation of the solemnly recorded pledges, to advance Abolition schemes, and not for the restoration of the Union, ander the Constitution, with all the rights of the States unimpaired. While Judge C...

perform what I conceive to be one of the highest duti of honest, fearless patriotism. I might here stop, Mr. Speaker, and rest this grett subject with the American people. The vast debt, the unparalleled fraud bv which it has iccumulated, and the iniquitous mode ot easing taxes on the wealth and labor of the country, are all before them. But the political party now in the ascendancy in the executive and legislative departments of this Government havi neyer considered any measure of policy on unv subject complete or perfect, nnless it embraced a connection however unnatural, with the African race, unfortunately in large numbers on ibis continent.
