The Union "Passes." The San Diego Union accuses us of making an evasive response to its de mand for facts, and then as if this were an excuse for so doing coolly proposes "to pass" what it calls "the windy nonsense about Credit Mobilier, and Republican polßicians." Who ever saw a Republican politician or a sub sidy organ that didn't want "to pass" hese things. They have no anxiety to hear the story of their own rascality, and they know that the only chance of ever getting their hands into the people's treasury again depends on gettingthe people "to pass" these dam aging facts too, as soon as possible. A Republican Congress and Administra tion put in a whole winter in cooking up a bogus investigation so as "to pass" these troublesome facts, and a partisan press has ever since been try ing...

As an advertising medium it is consequently of DOUBLE their value. Something Lacking. It is with genuine pleasure that we refer to every evidence of enterprise on the part of our citizens, and few copies of the Herald have been Is sued without calling attention to some substantial improvement in our city. There is still a great deal to do how ever to bring Los Angeles up to the standard that a city of her wealth and liopulation ought to aspire to, and one of the first things that ought to en gage the attention of public spirited citizens is the improveni«nt of our church accommodations. At present they amount to just nothing at all, when the requirements of a city of 12, --000 inhabitants are considered, to say nothing of the constant influx of stran gers coming here for health and pleas ure. The Jewish Synagogue is the only creditable...

The question of the hour, with the people of Los Angeles and the large area of fertile country the trade of which centers here, is how to get rid ofthe enormous tax upon our com merce, levied by the present clumsy system of lighterage. How great that tax is, few have any idea. Tn# HEK ald, believing that the true policy is to remove all obstacles, Instead of cov ering them up and pretending they do not exist, has opened this discus sion, and is determined to keep it up till the nature of the case is fully un derstood, and some decisive action taken to better our condition.
