July, 1863. On tie 1st of July General Reynolda brought Lee to a stand befora Gettys burg. On the 2J Meade fought the rebel army, which he beat on the 2d. On that day Peaibertou made overtures to Grant, and on the 4th Vickbuurg was surren dered; Marmadute, at the head of fif teen thousand men, was badly cut up at Ilalena, loosing twenty-five hundred men, and John Morgan was besten at Greon River Bridge, in Kentucky. On the 5th Jlrsecraiis took Winches ter, and on the 7th Tullahnina, Bragg's army flying before him. On the 8th Tort Hudson surrendered. On the 9th Buford and Kilpatrick defeated Sutart's famous cavalry at Boonsboro. On the 10'Ji General Gilmore landed on Morris Island, and in the most brilliant manner took all the forts and guus of the enemy there, except Wagner and Cumming's Point; on the same day General Sher man drove Johnson out of Jackson fur the second time, and General Blunt beat a rebel army near Fort Gobson.
