Thaddeus Sterens. The telegraph "Wednesday announced the deatli of Hon. Thaddeus Stevens, which event took place In Washington, Tuesday night. Mr. Stevens was born in Pcaeham, Caledonia County, Ver mont, April 1th, 1792. The family were poor, and Tliaddeus, when a child, was sickly and lame. His mother believed In his ablllies and toiled with all her strengtli to secure for him the opportun ity of acquiring an education, llegradu- uated with honor from Dartmouth Col lege in 1814, and the same year moved to Pennsylvania. Hewas admitted to the hat in 1810, and soon obtained a good practice. In 18128 he took part actively in politics, acting with the Whig parly.
