TPJLlo .Alio glactxxlgvxx. THURSDAY, APRIL 18, 1867. At. a meeting of the Union State Central Committee, held in Harrisborg on the 9th instant, the 26th day of June was fixed as the day for holding the Union State Convention. It will meet on that day at Williamsport. Equality. Jefferson declared a)l men to be created equal, and Rufus Choato pronounced the declaration of Jefferson a glittering gen erality. Jefferson was a Virginian of the eighteenth, and Rufus Choate a son of Massachusetts of the nineteenth, century. The people of Virginia follow the teach ing of Choate and the people of Massa chusetts that of Jefferson. Kulu Choate in his day was a Whig, and Jefferson is honored as the father of modern Democ racy. Yet those who to-day bear the Democratic name, and fcoast of the founder of their party, start in horror at the sug gestion ot man's equality with man, and pronounce as wildest fanaticism the prop osition put forth by Jefferson as the self evident truth that justified the ...

' Payino ""for His Provender by Prayino. The Cleveland Plaindealer eays : We have no intention of making fan of serious matters in telling the fol lowing good story we merely relate a fact : There is a rule at Oherlin College that no student shall board at any house where prayers are not regularly made each day. A certain man fitted up a boarding house and filled it with boarders, but forgot, until the eleventh hour, the pray ing proviso. Not being a prayicg man himself, he looked around for one who was." At length he found one a meek young man, from Trumbull county, agreed to pay for his board in praying. Landlord "Why not, Mr. Mild ?" . Mild "It don't pay, sir. I ...

Skeleton No. 4. A Paris correspon dent gives the following characteristic story of the strategy "of an impecunious medical student : : The landlady of a certain medical stu dent, who ineffectually dunned her delin quent tenant for some time, resolved at last upon resorting to extreme measures. She entered the student's room one morning, and said in a decided tone : "You must either pay me my rent or be off this very day."
