Las Vegas Free Press Monday, Makcit 28, 1892. Sraiiia Hints on Millineby. The most notable thing in connec tion with the spring millinery is a revival of certain shapes made famil iar by hoirlooms.in the family in the shape of headgear worn by our grandmothers. This fs most dis tinctly marked in the small bonnets. There is no trace of it in tho big hats. But on the bonnets it is there; tin modish, swell, ultra to a degree, but undenliably tho nineteenth cen tury resurrection of the poke. It is piquant in its revised edition, but both crown and brim hint of that tunnel that hid grandmamma's pret ty face in it like truth in the bottom of the well. Tremendous bows of ribbon are characteristic of the big hats, which as usual divide popular favor with tho Bmall bonnet. The bigger the bow and the more it stands out the more you are certain you have an awfully swell hat. Breadth is the great thing to be de sired in a hat. It roust spread out, especially in the back, like the sails of a man...

It is said on good authority that the presi dent and his cabinet are well pleased with the conciliatory tone of Lord Salisbury's note of the 28th inst., and especially as it is held to concede the point that has been the principal cause of contention, viz:' A renewal of the modus vivendi of last year for the protection of the seal fisheries. This alleged concession is believed to be implied in his proposition to agree to a modus in case the treaty of arbitration is ratified, under the condition that each government shall guarantee the other for damages in curred through the suspension of sealing operations. The official who has been consulted by the president in regard to the negotiations said "he was especially pleased with Lord Salisbury's admission that Great Bri tain would hold itself liable for dam ages resulting to the United States because of th...
