We feel it again our duty to call the attention ot the Democrats of Greyson county, to the importance of having a nominating convention, and the more so because we under- stand there are a few who seetn to favor a free race. T-his is a time- honored custom of the party, and the opposite course has, in a majori- ty of wcases, given dissatisfaction There is a probability that the Greenback men, or as they are now known, "the Nationals," will put out a seperate ticket in this county, and they will take advantage of any want ot harmony in the Democratic party to put their men in office. In their recent conventions held at Sherman, thev have signified a de- termination to maintain a separate organization, and in all their delib- erations thev have manifested a per- sistent hostility to the Democratic party. To defeat this movement, havi...

DKNISON. SUNDAY MORNING. A HYDROPHOBIA SCARE. The Kxciteuieut About Mail Uos Huehusetta—UyliiK from Fright. [From the New York Sun.] Springfield, Mass.,Feb. 28.—What- ever may bo the truth about hydropho- bia, the fear of it has certainly caused an excitement and horror in many town* in this vicinity that in several in- stances almost reached frenzy. In some 4 of tho villages persons have been almost afraid to go abroad unless they were armed, and then they constantly looked for the approach of dogs. It seems to have made little difference how the dog looked or acted. That it was a dog, and that there had been reported liter- ally hundreds of cases of mad dogs in the State, and that several persons had died from alleged hydrophobia, was •nough. With people so greatly excit- ed testimony is not wholly unprejudiced, and it has been hard to learn just what foundation nxists for this great fright; that is, what evidence there is that dogs have been really rabid, and whether or not those...

[Ouklaijd ((Jul.) Correspondence Chicago Ttrnei. I Tho Chinamen celebrated the advent of their New Year "allee same as Meli- can man" his independence, with tom- toms and crackers at midnight, and to- day many a fair hand has reluctantly turned to homely service in the absence of John, who has gone to celobrate. Our own Celestial said, "I not go this time; I spend heapee monoy last year, I heapee foolee;" but a chum came along, and he could not resist the pros- pect of a few days of jollification. The Chinese Y. M. C. A. kept open house during tho day, and this evening their doors' were thronged with Caucasian visitors. The appearance by gas-light was very pleasing and especially novel to a newcomer, fresh for Yankeedom, In the centre of the room stood a table laden with Chinese fruits, coufect...

Ihc Jhiiti} Hems. DENIISON. SUNDAY.... MARCH 10 1878. The Prussian minister of finance has decided to send t gents to the United States to studv the American system of tobacco taxation. There was a destructive fire in Panama, last Wednesday. Three fine business blocks, including the Grand Hotel, were destroyed, inflict- ing a loss of $500,0 <0, about half covered by insurance. Mr. H. E. Farmer, of Pilot Poititj1 Texas, asks the papers to aid him in finding his son, who was inveigled away from Mrs. Snow's, near Pilot Point, by a man by the name of Bru- ton, on the 15th day of Febrnary last. The child was ten years old, of sandy complexion, light hair and blue eyes. The Austin Statesman says "i dosen't seem exactly right that a man should be obliged to walk through life on two bow legs just because he indulged in the innocent diversion of 6ucking his toes in babyhood." We fear the editor of the States- man has not a firm reliance on the justice of Nature. We submit his case to the ...
