Tho southern puss ns it is called has heretofore been represented to bo impracticable. It conduced to the interests of certain parties to make this represent- ation. But a short time ago a ship was anchored in the river and in dragging her anchors during a gale she was carried by force of wind into this southern entrance. The ofllcers of the vessel finding that she was as they supposed in a ciitical posi- tion cut away her masts and deserted her.
