LICENSING PROSECUTIONS. George Planck, Charles Jackson and Joseph Carney were each pro secuted on a charge of being on the premises of the Barooga hotel on December 1, during prohibited hours. None of the defendants appeared, It being s'.ated that they were resi dents of Victoria and were prevent ed from attending the court owing to the quarantine regulations. A plea of guilty was put in on behalf of the defendants. Planrk and Jackson were fined £ 1, and Carney 1U/. In addition each had to pay 61 court costs.

Private Matthews, who recently returned to Fiuley after. serving with the colors abroad, was im pressed for a time at the absence of praising commeut in the leading English newspapers of the Austra lians' line achievements in the battle conflicts. It was gratifying indeed when the papers published the fol lowing Order of the Day of the Australian Army Corps, issued by General Rawlinson.
