\ THE BARDOCK MINE. The Queensland mi up, which 'belongs''1 to, a Per,th syndicate, is situated about * five miles N;N';E, of Bardock. .Tlie property covers an area of 3 G acres. and contains two shafts. The south' shaft is about 50 feet deep, showing '' fine gold all the. way down. The 'main' shaft is about three chains to the north ' of the south shaft, goes' down about' 110 feet, and carries good gold x-ighfc: from the surface. At the surface the \ lode is 5 feet wide. At the 50 feet level the lode is' 15 feet, wi.de, and is composed of about 9 feet of quartz ahclj 6 feet of a quartz, rubble, the bulk assays going about, 11^ o.unces to the ton. As parcel of picked stone from the same level, Aveighing 36 pounds, was assayed by the Government As-' sayer (Mr Woodward) and gave a ret.urn of, 114: i ounces. 1£ dwts. to the,, ton. 'The Goldfields Bill is now passing through its final stages ia the Assem bly, and despite the assurance to the contrary of those supposed to be in the confidence of the Government, it appears the measure . will be come law during the present session. The most extraordinary provision con tained in the Bill is that dealing, with the forfeiture of leases for noncom pliance with the labor conditions. As the law stands the only penalty pro vided is|orfeiyure, lut the new Act proposed to. vary tins making.forfeituro compulsory only when the '^offence lias been repeated three times. ' Eor the first two offences it was intended to make it optional with the Warden to inflict a fine not exceeding £100 in the first} and not exceeding £200 in the second instance, or to recommend forfeiture. No provision was made for handing these fines to the applicant for forfeit ure, and the inference was that they would go to further swell the ...

The Premier said the Government- had decided to adopt a different coursn to last year, and would introduce these estimates into the Appropriation Ac count as a special schedule. The esii mate.rl expenditure last year was £987,837, and the actual expenditive £606,501, leaving a balance of £381,336 in hand. The Estimate for the present year was £863,460, out of which £39,561 is to be provided for salaries. The Loans for 18rf4 and 1888 were almost all spent, and would sooit disappear altogether from these Estimates. The first loan under the New Constitution was al-o almost ex pended, and from the 1894 loan the Government proposed an expenditure of £793,766, leaving a balance on ' June 30th of £76,54®. Government Land Sales. A fair number of people assembled' at the Survey office on Friday morning when Mr R. L. Hair disposed of four teen Kurnalpi town lots and three lots in Kanowna. The bidding for the former was much higher than for the latter, and the excitement displayed was much greater. The upset price was £25, and the low figure was soon passed in the bidding for the first lotr No. 10,.. -which wen,t down at £110 to Mr Thomson. The bidding for the next lot, 12, was brisker, and the hammer fell at £115, the bid having been Raade by Mr Maxwell.. Lot 13, was disposed of to Mr Carmichael for £.120. The bidding now gradually rose, the fourth lot, U, going down at £ieO-to Mr Dwyer, lot 21 at £150 to Mr C- J.
