CLAIMS FOR FLOOD DAMAGES. [Newspaper Article] — The Kerang Times — 6 August 1889

CI.xlIS FOr: FLOOD1 D)AM?A~S.-A further inspection will most probably be made during the course of the next few weeks, hir an officer of the Public Works ])ep:trtnment, of the damages done by floods to the public works of Inunicipali ties which have asked for special grants in-aid to repair these damages. The DJe partment has received information that a number of the bridges which have been demolished were old and decayed struc tures. In the ordinary course of events they woull have had to be replaced by the councils withiil a short period, and the view is therefore taken that the full charge of such works ought not to fall upon the State. PIO:sYyTERuItA CHUIIcn.--It is notified elsewhere that the Rev. Wr m. Webster will preach on Sunday next, at Kerang, morning anmid evening, and in the afternoon at Tra gowel . LIViERY STAnom.s.--Messrs. Garden Bros. notify that they have horses and buggies ont hire at reasonable ratee, and that they break in horses to saddle or harness.

GUNBOWER. [Newspaper Article] — The Kerang Times — 6 August 1889

GUNBOWER. (FROMO OUrP OWS COIRRESPONDENT.) In the latter part of 1852 the Melbourne Ar.'ua headed the" Wanted" column with "Wanted a Governor; apply to the people of Victoria." As it is now drawing very near to the annual election for shire coun cillors, and no sign of any contest for the vacant seat for the East Loddon Riding, I am thinking it is a pity the ratepayers at this end of the riding did not some time ago advertise that they wanted a good candidate to come forward and contest the seat that becomes vacant this month. There is no doubt about it that we at this end of the riding are virtually disfran clhised. It is true that the riding pos sesses two representatives, but they are both residents of Kerang, and their sym pathies and interests are bound up witll the town; the consequence is that this end of the shire is utterly neglected. Since the late fMr. Duncan Leitch repre sented us, there has been the regular annual visit of the rate collector, but the shire engineer has ...

THE TRAMWAY TIME TABLE. [TO THE EDITOR OF THE KERANG TIMES.] [Newspaper Article] — The Kerang Times — 9 August 1889

TIlE TRAMWAY TIME TABLE. [To Tru EuTorr or TIIm KEcAnn TiM?s.] Sir,-A glimpse back as far as two years ago would recall to our memories the stirring and spirited agitation for the Kcerang and Konndrook tramway. At that time it was clearly and palpably felt by everyone that if this splendid idea could be carried into effect it would dis pense with innumerable inconveniences, and be an innmense advantage to the people. Consequently we, as citizens and business people trading in a large fann ing district over which the tramway passes, desiring that our traflic should be tacilitated, accorded hearty and deter mined support to our shire councillors to supply this long-felt exigency ; and now that the tramway is an accomplished fact, and the train is actually passing over the line, what do we find ? We discover that our transit for goods and passenger traffic is greatly inconvenienced, if not altogether retarded, by the time-table that is at present in existence. There fore, Mr. Editor, I...

THE MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS..: Yesterday the annual municipal elec tions toon place throughout thie colony, linbut, with the exception of one or two instances, excited very little interest. TIorsfill and D. Allen. In the Shire of Gordon there was a (ight for one seat-the Central hiding-the retiring member, Cr. Smith, being opposed by Mr. 11. M. Kemp. Up to the hour ofgoing to press the result of the latter contest had not come to hand. Full particulars of the polling in the WVest Loldotn Riding were not known last nighl, three returns not bceing in, but these cannot affect the result." Details 'of the figures received are appended, andl it will be seen that Mr. ITorsfall thus far has a slhstantial najority of 10.4; and as the voting power at the ooths Illt accounted for is smail his return is assured : P...
