At all events, people seemed to take a greater interest in the auspicious event than hitherto.'' Altogether ' the liveliness was of an innocent and ?.. fraternal character. The police had little or no serious work to do, but were well distributed throughout the crowds in case cf necessity. The Prahran City Baad pleased the people by playing a programme of music outside the I Town Hall. In the wee small hours of the New Year the Mayor of Prahran, Cr Flintoff, entertained the . bandsmen in the Mayoral parlor, j when toasts appropriate to the occa- j sion were honored. ' The band was thanked for having so kindly assisted in ushering in the New Year, whilst on the other hand the thoughtfulness of His Worship in entertaining the members of the band was mach ap preciated. The Prahran band has risen to become one of the leading suburban ba...
