'During the last two seasons the Entom ologist and the Fruit' expert have been carrying out a series of experiments to study the life-bistory of the codling motb under natural conditions, aud to find out. the cheapest and most successful methods of checking this pest and keeping it within bounds, The orchard iu which these experiments are being carried out (for it is 'intended to follow up the matter this coming season) is situated about a mile from Mittagong. It is the property of tho Rev. J. Dark, but is now under leaso. The portion taken over for experiments consists of 335 well-grown apple trees, many of them much cankered through the attacks of woolly aphis ; and as some of those cankers are large and hollow, it has been a considerable drawback to oper ations on account of the shelter they afford the full grown grubs.
