ERADICATING THE LUCERNE FLEA. Swampholders ' Murray Bridge ' have been greatly concerned in regard to the presence of the lucerne flea on their holdings, ahd the local branch of the Agricultural Bureau took active steps to cope, with the pest and pre vent its spreading to other areas. The Han. FIRE AT MONTEITH. HOMESTEAD SAVED. At 11 o'clock on Friday morning, i when Mr. M. P. Ryan, of Monteith, ] was entertaining the district sales manager of the Ford Motor Company. Mr. R. M. Pullman, who with Mr. V. M. Matthews, Murray Bridge Ford representative, and his sales manager (Mr. R. W. Paton), were visiting the settlement, the alarm, of fire was raised. It appeared tfcat a building some hundred yards away on the - est side of the homestead had burst into flames. A nearby neighbor, being the first to notice the outbreak, hurriedly informed Mr. Ryan who with I the three Ford representatives, after a strenuous fight, succeeded in saving the homestead, the direction of the fire being turned by Messrs. .Matthews and Paton, while Mr. Pullman took measures for the protection of the two Ford motor vehicles on the prop erty, A fine stack of hay was mo mentarily in imminent danger of destruction, a whirlwind rising some 150 feet high and sweeping across the blazing stubble..
