KILMORE BOROUGH COUNCIL. MONDAY, MAY 22. [Newspaper Article] — Kilmore Free Press and Counties of Bourke and Dalhousie Advertiser — 25 May 1865

KILMORE BOROUGH COUNCIL. S Mopr, ilAY 22. Present :--The _Mayor and Councillors Sugden; ,4.rcus,..homas; Murriy,:Dodi ling, -Hudson,;" and' afterwards Councillor Do binson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence as follows was then read and considered: 1. From Mr. L. Dunphy, saying he had almost completed Martin Flynn's contract, and asking for the boulders that were taken therefrom. Councillor Sugden proposed that the re quest be granted. Councillor Dowling seconded the motion. Councillor Thomas supported the motion. Councillor Dobinson also gave his support to the motion, as he considered the work had been well done by Mr. Dunphy. He believed in the system of making contractors adhere strictly to the terms of their contracts, but in this instance, as he believed, Mr. Dunphy was at a loss by the work, he thought there was reason for deviation, and he thought Mr. I)unphy should get the boulders. The motion was put and carried. 2. From the Town Ha...

TsErE are three importain interests of public policy bearing upon the well beingand progress of this young colony which especialy claim the consideration and legislation of the people and legislature. These are, the rgricultural -for the production of ftod, clothing, and other things-the mining-for the extraction of gold, silver, copper, iron, tin, and other metals from the earth-and, lastly, the hna nufactoring, for the con er ion of the pro ducts of the two bcPfre-namied interests into the conmmodities and articles which civiliza tion and progression have rendered indispen sable. A fourth interest arises out of the success of the before-mentioned three, and that is the commercial. In this colon were there no agricultural, no ruining, neither manufactories or commerce could find a place. : I?HSCELLANEOUS EXTRACTS PAT ?ND ITs Pro.-A rollicking Hiber- t nian of the light division, in the Peninsula, r was on'c trudging .long the road with a pig tied to a string behind himn, when, as bad luck would have it, he was overtaken by General Canford. The s?:utation, as may be supposed, was not the mo-t cordial. "Where did you steal that pig, vou plundering rascal?" "What pig general ?" . . Why, that pig you have behind vou, you villian." Well, then, I vow and protest, general," rejoined Paddy nothing abashed, tnd turning round to his four-footed companion as if he had never seen him before, "it is scaudalous to think what a wicked world we live in, and how ready folks are to take away an honest boy's I character. Some blackguard, wanting to get me into trouble, has tied that baste to my cartooch box." The general smiled and rode on. MISCELLANEOUS EXTRACTS [Newspaper Article] — Kilmore Free Press and Counties of Bourke and Dalhousie Advertiser — 25 May 1865

MISCELLANEOUS EXTRAtCTS The Geelong Advertiser, on the authority of one of the Camden Harbour party, draws a gloomy picture of that part of the island continent. It is said:--"Of the ingenous fruit of Camden Harbour, so glowingly de scribed in the first communication received thence, the grapes were caustic, and took the skin off the palate and tongue; the pluma were acrid and bitter, and the kernals were only eatable. The only birds were sparrows and eaglehawks; the game an inferior sort of kangaroo, dilfering from the Victorian genus in being deficient in the long claws on the four feet. The bay abounds with fish, but the only sort he saw captured was like what is de-ignatcd here the salmon trout. Amongst 'reptilia,' there are snakes of the constrictor species, or, more properly writing, serpents belonging to the boa class, the lar gest being twelve feet long, aud about the girth of an ordinary man's arm. These snakes or serpents, paid nocturnalvisits to the camp. One of them bein...

ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE. WALLAN WALLAN AGAIN. TO THE EDITOR OF THE KILMORE FREE PRESS. [Newspaper Article] — Kilmore Free Press and Counties of Bourke and Dalhousie Advertiser — 1 June 1865

ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENOC. WALLAN WALLAN AGAIN. TO THE EDITOR OF TIE K;ILMOn FRIEE PRESS. SIx,-I have carefully read the correspon dence relating to the notorious tea meeting at \Vallan Wallan, and I think the WVes leyans there must have experienced the satis thetioa expected by a great man when he ex claiultd " Oh that mine enemy would write a book." A little clique, calling themselves P'a~hyterians, have wrote a book, and such a book as might mnlli augel . 1. r ln not wish to follow the examuple of " \ralhla" and other frothy scribblers of his kind in attack ing the private characters of those who hold a different opinion to what I hold. I think " Observer" and his respectable men are GE\EUAELLY quiet and inoffensive enough; like the ox, while he is shut up in his stall he troubles nobody, so they, while they are allowed to remain cribbed in by prejudice and bigotry, they move in that circle big with imagined attainments and attract but little notice ; but, drag thent out and allow ...

A RUN WITH R. BLOXSIDGE, ESQ.'S HOUNDS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE "FREE PRESS." [Newspaper Article] — Kilmore Free Press and Counties of Bourke and Dalhousie Advertiser — 1 June 1865

A RUN WIT 11 . BLOXSIDGE, ESQ.'S HOUNDS. TO THE EDITOR OF TILE " FRES PRESS." Sir.-It must be highly gratiltyiug to some of the" elite" of Kilatore to enjoy thensely es and show their horsemanship across country at the expense of a private individual, but I respectfilly remind those large hearted per sons that the expense of keeping hounds and looking after theta costs the proprietor a nice little sun in the cours; of twdlve months, and I consider it only right and just that a share of the expense should be borne bythe "elite" and fashion able of Kit more. Some few months ago, 3Ir. W. II. Wood mentioned the circunt.auce of a hlunt Club being established, and subscriptions collected, when I was led to believe that ere now, we would have had a "LIunt Club" with at least fifty members. Through the kindness of our thorough English sportsman, Mr Bloxsidge, a run took place last Wednes day (the 24th), aund; the liberality of nmany of our neighboura being so well known they would, if asked...
