The country now most be conquered, vi et armie, and its unruly inhabitants brought under complete subjection. It is conspicuously apparent that the Ameer has not the least influence over his subjects, and that the treaty of Gandatnak is eo much waste paper after all. It is evident that the Afghans, or at least the majority of them, regard YAKOOB KHAN as a friend of the English and a traitor to hiB country. His own troops, upon whom it might bave been expected he could implicitly rely, bave revolted and dis owned him. He is a fugitive from his court and capital, which bis army have occupied. He has token refuge with the British troops, and henceforth must place bis fortunes unreservedly in their hands. He was found hanging by his bridle to a tree in the bush. Stooke was lately employed by Mr. Thornton of lower Bill station, to take bulls from Aramac to Charters Towers. It is alleged that over indulgence in drink induced him to commit self-destruction.
