ON Friday last a party of explorers started from Lismore for the purpose of unravelliag the mystery so long hanging over the "Booyouan,"   A place so named by the aborigines and, said by   them to be the habitation of some monster. This place has long been a great terror to thc blacks, and a great difficulty was experienced in finding a guide, however having agreed with Jimmy Jack Eyles, who stated he knew the place, a start was made, and having enlisted two thorough bushmen at Rose Hill, the little party pushed on to Calico Grass, on the Gool mangar before halting, having ridden some 20 miles. Hero finding a really good humpy and feeling that the horses were quite secure, a good rest was obtained. Up at five next morn ing, which proved very cloudy, a start was made for the cave, but it was soon very evident that the guide was useless. Xismore Police Court. FRIDAY, 24TH NOVEMBER, 1876. before H. S. EMMOTT, Esq.; P.M., and A. M. ; GIEÂED, Esq,, J.P. - John McLennan, was brought up on remand from Mdayi ^ 7th instant. James Maxwell was examined, and deposed to laving on the morning of the 9th entered McLennan's louse, for the purpose of asking.for his deeds and ettling disputes; that he assaulted Mrs McLennan, aid while in the. Set of doing so, «a shot was' fired ; aid he fell. The witness was subject to. a cross» «animation at some length as to his conduct ; his Basons for going there ; his previous attempts to <nter the house. - The defendant reserved his defence^ and was bound .ver to appear at the general gaol delivery to .be ield at Grafton on a day to be named. THURSDAY last, was: a red-letter day in the iimuals of our township, as it was marked by ihe launching of the new steamboat which our respected townsman Mr. K.( Mackenzie, laid the keel of some four months since, and which he has, so far, brought to; a successful completion ^solely by his own skill and manual^ labor. Tho Haunch took place.about 4 O'CIOCK: m tHo after- ; noon, and- was attended hy a large concourse of people, at which time everything being ready,. Mrs. Mackenzie approached the.vessel, which was prettily decorated with flags, and breaking a bottle of wine over the bows, named her the " Lismore," after which the word was " let-go " and the "new idea" glided off the stocks into her native element as naturally as a duck, amidst the cheers of. those assembled.
