TEE DEMOCRAT. t. Mcdonald Editor. PLYMOUTH, IND. Thursday Morning, July 16th, 1S57. Signs or the 7iimes. If our readers will observe' tho course which the leading organs cf the Republican party are taUng, they cannot fail to eeo that the leading object they have in tiutr, except the spoils, is to place tho negro and w-iito man on an equality. Some of the small Republican paper3 rather squirm at the idea of a negro being allowed to rote and hold office to sue and be sued; but they will have to fall into line. Tho Columbus Journal, tha central organ of tho Republican party in the Stato of Ohio, comes out decidedly in favor of "the doctrine, in tho following extract: "We beltevo the ncijro is uman he "haasoul has an intellect, an i so far as the right of suffrage or any other right of citizenship is concerned. o should be placed on an equality with the rest of mankind." It seems to us if this is not the Republican sentiment, in Ohio, at kast, that the Journal would uot be supported, an...

V nrliitcnt' J. .lie nOAlE,ny Editor. Birds 'ot- a feather, flock together." Tins adage is abundantly proved by the M. C. 'Republican: All th 3 principal associations of life enter into a person's thoughts and feelings, and become a part " of the person, and raaik all that that person says or does. Let a man associate with Tefined people, male or female, and he will become refined vulgarity and improprie - ties will be no part of his e.ery day acts and sayings. On the contrary, let him associate with the vulgar and low-bred, or even coarse animals, and Iiis nature will become assimilated to theirs, and his every wcrd or act will attest it. Therefore, we judge by people's language and actions what their associations are, and have been. We can easily tell, then, what kinds of associations make the fountain head from which flows the ideas that find their way into the M. fi. Republican. We find nothing but "long ears," "under the house," Spooney," 'Green," and otherentire personalLif8, ...

ltd the People Rule. The test principles on which the Democracy fought the battle of 1856 Tvtth the laggard and encumbering co-operation of the ultra Southern politicians wa3 the riht of the people of the Territories to form for themselves their State constitutions, a principle which the ultras plumed themselves upon having forced the National Democracy to espouse; and yet, now these mirrors oppose the submission of euch a constitution as they would frame for Kansas, to her people, because the people would vote it down! They thus proposed a fraud not only mean and infamous in itself, but doubly so, 5 being expressly violative of the most solemn public pledges. We tell them, that, however they may succeed in misleading public opinion for a moment the Democracy of the South, the honest masses of all parlies in the South, tho honorabb, lawabiding, faith -keeping, chivalrous South herself will refuse to countenance so monstrous a fraud, so bald a partizan trick, so silly, paltry, wanton...

The case of Gipe, a notice of whose sentence ire published last week, was generally con lid red to be the most important of the criminal cases, but his sentence would in dicate that his crime was a small affair. AYe have heard a general expression of dis satisfaction in regard lo the sentence of the court; and although we submit to the bur then with a full knowledge of its injustice, yet we Know that our taxes are high enough without supporting criminals after final trial, when we have paid our proportion of the expense of furnishing a place where they may be kept without being a burthen io anybody.
