Blarney It is so customary for newspapers to blarney the Irish portion of our population , that wejfeel asli ght hesitation in publishing the following , for fear we should be included in the category , but as we have no favors to ask of any particular class , WjMee no reason to blarney tbem . A travewPin Ireland says : Many superstitions of the Irish peasantry , as will be supposed , inculcate the old Irish virtue of hospitality . Our guide at Killarney , Sir Richard Courtnay , gave us one . A traveller one day went into a cottage , where he , saw a very aged man sitting by tbe fire . The owner of the houso welcomed the stranger , but told him not to be frightened at anything he might hear or see . For , said he , that s my old father ; hes been dead twenty years ; and when the nights are cold , he comes to his cabin to get an air of the fire , and goes away when the morning dawus . •* - ?? Temperance Extremes . [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 18 June 1853

•* - ?? Temperance Extremes . During these times , when the professed friends of the temperance cause are carrying tlieir movements a leetle too far , in denying the right of freemen to buy and sell what they please , the following beautiful passage may not be inappropriate . We take it from an address , delivered by Ex-President John Adams : In tbe ardor of your zeal for moral reform , forget not the ri ghts of personal freedom . All excess is of the nature of intemperance . Self-government is the foundation of all our political and social institutions , and it is by self-government alone that the laws of temperance can be enforced . In the effort to recover your brother from treading the primrose path of dalliance with tho Circean cup , allure him by kindness , rather than repel him by reproach . Teach him still more • by example than by precept . Seek not to force upon him by legislative enactment that virtue which ho can possess only by the dictates of his own conscience , and t...

That New Theatre . [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 18 June 1853

That New Theatre . We stated in the Clipper a few weeks since that it was rumored in theatrical circles that Mr . Eddy intended building a theatre in the Bowery , between Hester and Walker streets . The rumor still obtains credit , and the name of Mr . Chanfrau has been broached as the partner of Mr . Eddy , in the enterprise . These gentlemen , it is said , should they carry out what they have in contemplation , will be backed by a gentleman of wealth , well known in this city , though , perhaps , it may not be lawful for us to mention his name . If you wish to keep well posted up in matters and things in New York , don t fail to read the Clipper .
