It was truly a day for giving thanks , in Philadelphia after the matinee and * night houses had been counted up last Thursday . Every theater in the city broke its house record on that day and the entire week showed such a vast increase in receipts that managers are much encouraged . The highprice houses went far above their usual receipts , the burlesque houses could not accommodate the crowds that came , and every smalltime vaudeville house in the city had to put on extra shows in order to accommodate the people who clamored for admission . With the biggest crowds ever known in the history of amusements there was not an accident to mar the day . Managers kept a sharp watch on the crowds , and by engaging extra people reduced the danger of scares or panics to a minimum .
