Chicago Germans havo announced their intention to return to the Republican ranks, because, forsooth, the mayor of the Garden City gave too many appoint ments to the sons of the Emerald Isle to suit the Teutons, Gladstone is spending hisvaction at his place in Hawarden, Wales, and for amusement and rest goes out in the woods occasionally and fells a tree. In various ways the great Premier is busy all the time. Gladstone is a liv ing examplo of the axiom that recrea tion and rest, do not mean idleness, but rather a change of employment and thought.
