Valuable Receipts. Case of IIaesess. T. Oliver Avers, practical harness maker, Kent county, Pel., contributes to the American Agri culturist the following suggestions: Har ness ehould be hung up on wooden pins in clean dry room with t plank floor, co thai it .may be free from dampness. When 6oiled, it 6houid be washed with ctstlle'toap suds. Harness that is in constant use needs oiling four times a year ; if only occasionally brought out, as carriage harness, etc., twice a yc&r will be sufficient, if the washing be not neg lected. To oil harness, separate all the pieces," and lay them in water till thor oughly wet through. Then wash them clean and allow them to dry sufficiently. To know when they are in good condi tion for oiling, bend a strnp, and if the water docs not ooze out it is dry enough. Train oil whale oil is sometimes used, but neats-foot oil is much better. Mix with a little lam$ black, and with a brush apply it to both sides of the straps. About ix hours after oilin...

Couldn't Blow the Horn. It happened, some years og.-, that a re-pccteJ employee in this office, suppos ed by some to he green in more respects th.-n one, although a shrewd business man an eminently trustworthy, was sent on a'collcctiiig tour through the Suite oi' Mississippi. . . It carne to pass, in his journcyinjrshith er and thither, that ill-fortune brought him to the banks of the Yazoo Rivsr, where the only mode of crossing was ly means of a fl.tt-bottomed ferry-boat, which - was navigated by a " squatter," who lived Bomo distance from the river-bank. The ferryman lived so far off that he could not he;ir the call of any one who might wish to be ferried over, and he therefore left a horn on the bank, to be blown by any ansious viator who might wish his services.
