E5l -3L mm mmmm THE WEEKLY AM20NAN AUGUST 20 1870 JI02T. H. C. McCOItMIOK IN THE FIELD. Through a letter received from Hon. R. 0. McCormick by last Vra ail we are authorized to an nounce him as a candidate for re election. Wo had feared at one time that he would declino the nomination, for reason which, at the time, appeared sufficient in themsolves, but having the interests of his Territory aud con itituents at heart aud yielding to the solicita tion of peopie in every counly of the Terri tory, he nowcome3 forward to offer himself as their candidate. The people have cause for rejoicing at this conclusion ; and we are of the opinion that he will have the field to himself. We do not think that there is in tho whole Ter ritory araan who courts public ridicule inso much as to place himself in a position from which he is well aware that he must fall, after having suffered an ignominious defeat: aud such will be the fate of him who will exercise sufficient temerity to call himself a cand...

THE WEEKLY AKBONAN RETROGRESSION Several of the roacheros of the Sonoita, San ta Cruz and San Pedro valleys are at present remaining ia town, and from conversation with them we have gathered inforrsation which wo do uot, indeed, fesl any satisfaction in record-, ing. They freely acknowledge their inability to longer contend against the heavy disadvan tages vrh ch beset their pathway to improve ment and progress. The farmer, when he goes to his field to labor, id obliged to not only bur. then himself with arms, but likewise to take with him an armed escort of one or two men to protect him while he plows his field or gath ers iti his corn : this is actually the manner in which farming is carried on at the Santa Cruz Talley, in the neighborhood of Tnbac. On the Sonoita valley, since the removal of the cavalry company from Camp Crittenden, the prospects of the farmers are hardly brighter than on the Santa Cruz. The people have discovered that they struggle in vain ('"that the profits of...

For tLo first time an election in Arizona pro mises to bo characterized by a general display of partisan sentiment It is, or flhould be, need less to proclaim to an enlightened public that in Arizona the movement is premature ; and not premature alone, but, in consequence, sub versiva of an united sentiment which should ' prevail throughout the Territory, and detri mental to every interest 6f the country. Hold ing this view of the matter, then, we can hard ly arrive at the conclusion that the motives which havo influenced the establishment of a-partyline in Arizona have for thoir object either the aggrandizement of thn mass, the so cial preferment of any community, or tho ad vancement of the country's interests. Ask any ono of the ''Many Democrat j" by whom the Democratic Convention of to-day has been called, where lies the necessity of arousing this partisan spirit, and he will tell you that ''the time haa come...
