Poppleton and Dyers were the candidates fof "Mayor.' Mr. Cuming, received his appointment s Secretary of this Territory, in 8ol from President Pierce. On the death of Gov. Francis Burt, in the fall of that year, he became Acting Governor of the Ter ritory, which office he held Until the ap pointment of Mark W. Izard, was made to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Gov. Burt. The first Legislature was convened and a Territorial government organized under the administration of Mr. Cuming. He has since, at various times, held the position of Acting Governor. Land Salsiiv Nebraska.
