SPUNK. This is getting to be a very popular word quite as much as that goo.l old English word, "Bamboozle." which Senator Benton sanctioned last sea son. The necessity which some peo pie feel of "showing their spunk," when trilling annoyances cross them, is productive of a vast amount of heart-burning, bickering and spleen. Many a quarrel has risen in early life and cast its shade of bitterness and hatrcd.cvcn over the grave of one of the parties which had its origin in an innocent mistake on one part, and a delermination to "show spunk," on the other. "I will let you know I've got some spunk I" said a dunned landlord to his creditor, one day, on acknowledging the receipt of a dun. How did ho do it? Ho cursad, raved, swore and blackguarded, paid his bill, ami then. to spite his impatient cred'tor, went to another house la bin his liquor, and paid more money lor poorer goods.
