&hc piifotn (Sounttt (SvUnmc. SUPPLEMENT. WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 18, 1889. Eds. Tribune : 1 received an underground telegram of a meet ing of bank officials and treasurers and ex-treasurers held in the par lors of one of the banks called for the purpose of considering the chances of electing a county treas urer friendly to the banks. An ex treasurer in the chair. A bank pres ident slowly and solemnly arose and addressed the meeting as follows: Mr. Chairman: That we are under great and lasting obligations to the present count7 treasurer no one. who knows how faithful he has been to us, will deny. But that fatal statement published bears in controvertible evidence that there were large sums of money in the treasury (or rather in our hands), which ought to have been used in redeeming warrants. The county is dotted all over with grangers who have been compelled to bor row money from us who had war rants unpaid. money, whereas he was onlv enti tled to $960.82 county and 8140.50 city, making a difference of 427.46 county, $251.85 city. Our county is actually on the verge of bankruptcy. The general fund on the 7th of this month was overdrawn, that is there was 148.00 left on general fund and W. M. Hinman had a bill of 340.00 al lowed. He could get only 148.00 warrant and the balance 192.00 has to go over to next July levy before he can get his warrant. There wilLnot be another warrant drawn on the general fund till next year's levy, which will be July, 1890. Consequently jurymen, election officers and all persons having claims against the county will have to sell them for what they can get, which will not be much, for the buyers will use the uncer tainty of getting warrants paid, as our treasurers are above the law, as a club to beat down prices. Two months more than exhausted the general fund now ten months or more without warrants. Next year there will be a rivalry among claim owners to get...

f he Mm STEVENS & BABE, Editors and Props. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 13, 186. THE OFFICIAL COUNT. The vote of this county as found by the official canvass is published in these columns this week. There was a light vote polled, the highest being 1822 for treasurer, a falling off of seventy-eight from the vote of last fall. The vote in the city waa especially light, many of those who registered even failed to cast their ballots. With two exceptions the entire Republican ticket was elected with majorities running from 92 to 498, the latter being for Buchanan for Clerk. The cause of these varia tions was purely personal, although in the case of treasurer a determin ed effort was made to beat Mr. Osgood on his record, which no doubt had a great effect. In the case of county judge, there were two prime causes that operated to defeat Mr. Ray; Personally his opponent is one of the most popu lar men in the county, when run ning for office, and people naturally love to vote for a good fellow; but M...
