Political Perils. Unquestionably a very despond ent feeling pervades a great many well-meaning people, devoted Re publicans !.t that, as to the future of Republican institutions In tbe United Slates. This depression arises from two causes. First is the undeniable corruption which, for the past eighteen years, has pervaded every department of the National government and most of the State governments. As far as mere theory goes, tbe Republican party is an admirable organiza tion. Its first national platform was as full of sound Jeffersonian doctrine as an egg is of meat. A Grass View of Legislatures. It is lamentable but true that the Legislatures of many of the States have come to be looked upon of late years as bodies of official "strikers." That such an opinion Ii ingrained lv many Intelligent communities Is of itself proof con clusive that Legislative morality has fallen to a very low ebb.
