IOLA, ALLEN COUNTY, K1NSAS, Douse nn& Jarm. Sheep Husbandry In Kansai. Perhaps there is nothing so anomalous in Kansas agriculture as the general ab sence ot wool-growing, pursued either ns n specialty or a part of general farm ing. Mr. Alfred Gray, in his report for 1875, tells usthat even the small num ' ber of sheep, 10C.224, now held in the State scem3 to be diminished, there hav ing been reported 2,804 less in 1875 than in 1870. This beems all the more aston ishing when we consider the generally enterj-tUing character of our farmers. They have larbored hard, and against inexperience and lack of manufacturing facilities, to make flax and the castor bean promint objects of cultivation; and they are already talking very earnestly of importing worms and mulberry tree? and going into silk raiding ...
