ewbemJtn i b tis. VOL. XXII. A1TU^{8 2o0 OLa NT+IIS. NEWBERRY, S. C., WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 1886. A.rubnenr and Jeojriciai. NO. 43 QUEER STORY FROM MONTREAL Formation of the United States Invol untary Exile Capitalists' Club. An interesting meeting of resident American capitalists is said to have been held here last evening. The outcome is reported to have been the partial organization of the "United States Involuntary Exile Capitalists' Club." It is difficult to ascertain what was done at the meeting. The Knights of Labor could not be more chary in giving information to the press. Indefinite reports, however, indicate that the capitalists had an inharmonious time. If those reports are correct, John Keenan called the meeting to order and nominated John C. Eno for president. Mr. Nathan M. Neeld, late of Chi cago, opposed the nomination on the ground of Mr. Eno's lack of moral character. Mr. Neeld said that they had among them a gentleman who occupies a prominent position in re ligio...

PUBLiSHED EVERY WEDNESDAY AT A'ewbetgy, S. C. TO JEFFERSON DAVIS. On the Occasion of His Recent Visit to Montgomery, Ala. From the mountains and the valleys, From the cities by the sea, The eager crowds are gathering, In haste to welcome thee. The bugle call is sounding For the onward march to-day, And they gather, gather, gather, Like the foeman to the fray. They come with flaunting banners, - But no blood-red cross is there; Only the snow-white lilies Of peace-and wondrous fair. Then look on those who love thee, Who gather round thee now, And read aright the written line Emblazoned on each brow. Look I and thy heart grow strong And,proud-for thine eye can see No traitor in the serried ranks ; They're one--and one with thee. No need to tell the story, For all have learned it well; With loving hearts they silent wait, Thy voice to break the spell. Then-speak of strife that's ended, Of the parted who are one, Of peace which comes with morning, And sets not with the sun. And speak of ...
