We copy the following article showing the present state of society in Oahu, from the Sandwich Island News. " Tii lm». 'i • pay, aad pity *tij' "if* tow.* I It is a notorious fact and a meloncholy one that a certain class of residents here; cherish the most unkind feeling towards a certain other class. To see the officers and employees of this government arrayed against the alien resident, is a common thing ; in fact, it seems only necessary that it should be known that the lately arrived foreigners associates freely with, or is perhaps a relative of an alien resident, to detemine the government official in placing him on the list of his own self-arrayed enemies to government and to treat him accordingly. And, strange as it may seem, these unjust feelings and prejudice are most fully indulged in by those professing Christianity, those who boa...

To the Editor of the Star. Monterey, March 20th, 1847 Sia. -- ln compliance with my promise when we parted, I embrace the present opportunity of giving you a brief account of my travels, and of occurrences in the south, and in this place, together with such items of news as I have been able to gather. After having traveled over most of the settled parts of the north side of the Bay, arrived at fort Sacramento in four weeks from the time left your place. I should have spent more time in that delightful region, particularly in Sonoma and Napper valleys, two of the most beautiful sections of country I ever beheld; but I was anxious to push on towards the south for the purpose of joining the army, if my services were required. From the fort, I traveled over a fine country, five days, when I reached the San Joaquin -- Here I spent several days in exploring the country bordering on that stream and its tributaries. This I regard as one of the finest sections of California. The valleys are ...

.A Query, and a Confession. Mr. Editor : I have been reading Montaigne, an old philosophical French writer who flourished two hundred and fifteen years ago, and I have come to the conculsion that the excessive seeming aversion to egotism, now to common, is an unprofitable affection. We think more of ourselves, and really know more of ourselves than of anybody, or anything else and are able to write or speak more understandingly on that subject than on anu other. But it will be asked, who is honest, and independent enough to speak or write truely about himself?
