Hearing of his misfortune, several local townsmen met and dccided to give him a week's work erecting new fencing. Grahame, desires It to be notified that the Depart ment of Agriculture is receiving numerous enquiries from persons desiring to purchase seed wheat. The Department will be only too pleased to put intending buyers in touch with sellers if the latter will notify the Department as to the va rieties on linud and the quantity. It Is pointed out that the seed wheat purchased by the Depart ment is only sufficient for the re quirements of necessitous farmers, but the department will only be too pleased to do all in its power to assist both purchasers and sellers of seed wheat by placing them in direct touch oue with another.

N.S.W. Farmers. a serious 1'ucrrr. The Minister of Lauds, Mr Ash ford, discussing the serious position of the farming industry, said un doubtedly a grave crisis h:is been reached. The extended drought throughout the .State wis having a serious effect, and piless rain fell soon the position would lie alarm ing. (Good rains have since fallen.) One third of the fanners were in n most serious position financially— practically down and out. Anothei third were fighting hard with con ditions, going against them, ,\vhije the remaining third,,, was believed to bu in n comfortable- position. The Government was doing nlf It could to help farmers by making advances for the purchase of seed wheat and fodder, and to pay fur fallowing. The question of estab lishing a land bank was also lief'orc Cabinet, and will probably receive consideration at an early datu, so that if its establishment were de cided on tile necessary act could be put through Parliament during the coming session.

Wheats of the Future. Mr H. 1'ye, cerealist ;it Uookie, reports tliat yields from plots were not good owing to the in tuspJciotis seaton and unfavorable soil condi tions. In the larger wheat plots Major will (jive the best yield, fol lowed by Federation and Yanward. In the acre plots two unnamed wheats—R-1179 and Q3282—will head tho list. It is interesting to note that from reports received f;om South Australia and N.S.W., Major has done exceedingly well. A grower at Yacka, S.A., writes that yields of this variety in iiis i district range from 10 to 14 bags per acre; and he hopes to sell JOOO bags for seeil. At the local court yesterday, be fore Mr Lotigfield, P.M., two lUr ooga residents, Rupert Russell and Albert Rollins, were heavily fined for Imping lighted a fire in a State forest reserve ami failing to proper ly extinguish it. Mi' Whitty appeared for defend atils, who pleaded not guilty, aiid Mr G. Wibord, forest oflicj, prose cuted. First-class Sergeint Byrne de posed that on December 23rd, in company with Constable Filan and George Dickie, whilst going through the forest reserve adjoin ing the Barooga Station, at about 1'2 15 p.in , they came upon a catup wbei'etwo tents had been pitched, alongside which was a fire burning brightly, and on It was a bucket containing corned beef.
