She is in a benumbed trance, with just sufficient of vital functions about her to keep her from forgetting to exist altogether. .People don't live at St. Lawrence; they yegitate a3 the mossesand lichens do. They're there and there they stick, because they are too inert to leave the place. Times are very dull at St. Lawrence. A few people have got men out prospecting and some fairly good specimens have been lazily obtained; but the drought is playing the very Samgriffith with every body there, and causing to evaporate what little sap aoyojiemay have left. The waterlioles there have never been filled and the whole country is barren and desolate. > The winter is a hard one to face. The St. Lawrence outcasts are even too lettargic to gossip, so. that its social aspect is as tame as its material. St. Lawrence folk are a quiet lot, bu...

Parson Knipe on Religion and Science. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Figaro and Punch — 25 July 1885

Parson Knipe on Bellgion aM Science. The Rev. J. X; l£nipe gave aSlectureat^ borough last week on " fievelation in relation to Modem Science," the object of ^jhich was to show that the Christian church has nothing* to fear from true science. I neither deny nor affirm the ultimate possibility of reconciling the teachings of one with the lessons of the other* but I do deny the right qf Mr. Knipe to misrepresent the teachings of science* so as to make them harmonise with Christian doctrine, and then deduce the compatibility of o&e with the other; and if the report of his lecture in the Colonist be accurate, which, as he has not cor rected it, it is fair to assume, this iB what lie dotes.
