SWEDISH DEFENSIVE PREPARATIONS. The Swedish Government, seeing the renewod I attempts of Russia sinco the peace to put her mili tary and naval forces and fortifications on the best fiKiting, has determined on not only carrying out a schema of lortilicntions in the interior, to form a system of central defence, but likewise on strengthening tin: existing forts. The firearms of the army are also to be changed, and in a few years the whole of tho Suedinh army will bu fur nished with rifles. An order for 5000 rifles for conical balls has already been sent to Belgium. The staff-officers of the Swedish army are at pre sent occupied in drawing up a minute map of Sweden. — Morning Chronicle.

SPAIN. The Madrid journals of the 7th November do not contain anything of striking interest. The lletjr.ncracion publishes a letter from the Marquis de In Pfznela, in which, roferring to certain state ments respecting him thnt have been made iu foreign papers, he says that be has niver expressed tho slightest doubt as to tho right of Queen Isa bella to the throne, and that hu is ready to shed bis blood in dofonce of it ; nlso, that ho is not op posed to n truo representative system, and that he does not a'piro to direct tho destinies of his country. The mission of the Duke do Ossima to St. Petersburg is only temporary, and it is not until his return tlist an embassy for that place is to bo definitely nominated.
