MINING. The Chesney started on Wednesday to cut down the present shaft, which will be considerably cheaper than sinking a new one. Mr R. Macpherson reports a promising find in the Drysdale Proprietary. The first six ton parcel from the Crown of the Peak was despatched to the Clyde Metallurgical Works on Wednesday. Mr J. M, Scott, mining broker, Cobar, reports a lifeless week in the share market. Occidentals have gone back to 5s 2d. Wes- terns, Drysdales, and Eldorados have buyers and Chesneys have a mild inquiry. At the Cobar Wardens Court on the 28th ult. suspension of labor conditions was granted to W. N. Willis for three months on gold leaaes WO and 217, portions G.L. 80 and 99, parish of Cobar, respectively. On the 27th ult. in tho local Warden's Court an application for suspension of labor by the Wild Wave Gold-mining Co. on G.L. 297, portion 1, parish of Linton, was struck out, there being no appearance on behalf of the company. Municipal Council. WEDNESDAY. Present : — Aldermen Snelson (Mayor), James, Hogan, Morrison, Hunt, Musgrove, Bailey, Duffy, Kin- kead, and the Council Clerk. The meetings of the two previous meetings were read and adopted on the motion of Aldermen Hunt and Morrison. CORRESPONDENCE. Outward : Formal and as directed at last meeting, also strong letters by the ex-Mayor, Alderman James, to the Minister for Works and member for the district, as to the grave need for a water supply, and asking that such amended legislation as would enable it to be got be at once introduced.
