I.O.O.F, M.U. [Newspaper Article] — The Scrutineer and Berrima District Press — 2 August 1892

n.©.-D-.P , m.hj. Somo of our readers may bo surprised that no report has yet been given in our columns of such an important meeting ns was hold Inst week, when . this lodgo met to hear an explanatiou of the pro posed redistribution of districts. Wo can only in justico to ourselves, Bay that 110 invitation was properly extended to tho Sautinrer, although two papers outside tho town were there. It is certainly due to tho secretary to say that he called nt tho editor's residenco at 8 o'clock tho same evening, and when wo returned at 10 p.m. we heard that a verbal invito had then been given un but which wns unfortunately too late to bo attended to. The toast of tho Press was given, but still 110 explanation was attempted why the local paper was not present. There arc other circumstances attached which wo need not inflict upon our readers, hut which wo feel stiro tho Oddfellows' of M03S Vnlo would not sanction as proper in conncetioa with their body and tho prc33. ?? Thou %liiilt Not DBcar False Witness.' One of tho divine Commandments directs that man shall not boa? false witness against his neighbour, and I regret that I should again find it necossnry to warn ti e. public against, designing and dishonost impostors. A Bjoc.i! Dudustry. Mu. McCLEERY'S COACH AND BUGGY FACTORY. In tho ' good old days ' of the colony almost everything had to bo imported from tho mother country, and sad to Gay through misgovernmcnt nnd inglorious tariffs thcro aro many articles yet im ported which should bo made in this country. Thcro haa been, however, notwithstanding such drawbacks, a steady progress made in tho establish ing of industries in our inidot. And this often has been simply bccauso many articles made in Kngland and elsewhere arc not adapted cither to our climate or the requirements of our population In various ways. Take travelling on somo of our up country roads for instance. An English madcor even Ameri can buggy is too light, and cannot stand the strain upon its weak build and after twoycars* wear, includ ing first cost and amount paid in repairs — without reckoning loss of timo and inconvenience — costs nearly double the colonial mado article.
