Irrigation Record. Published Fortnightly under the authority of the Commissioner for Irrigation at Leeton, New South Wales, Australia. Address all communications to THE EDITOR, "Irrigation Record," Leeton, N.S.W. [Newspaper Article] — Irrigation Record — 15 September 1913

If nidation IRecorb. Published Fortnightly under the authority of the Commissioner for Irrigation at Leeton, New South "Wales, Australia. . Address all communications to THE EDITOR, " Irriga tion Record," Leeton, N.S.W. IN the older irrigation settlements of Australia some interesting discussions have been taking place recently among fruit producers, in respect to the most economic fruits to grow. The experiences and comments of the growers of several years' standing are worth noting by settlers on this, the most recently founded irrigation settlement, of any extent, in Australia. In an address before the local Agricul tural Bureau, Mr. H S. Taylor, proprietor of the Murray Pioneer, lien mark-, chose an instructive subject, entitled : " What to PlantReferring to the varieties of grapes, he said that there was no question about the Doradillo vine being suited to the river lands. Though ther e are only a few Doradillo vines at Kenmark. they were among the earliest varieties planted at...

The Murray Waters and Irrigation. [Newspaper Article] — Irrigation Record — 15 September 1913

The Murray Waters and Irrigation. IT seems that some finality regarding the utilisation of the Murray waters for irrigation will soon be reached. The Minister for External Affairs (Mr. Glynn) recently stated that '""owing to the efforts of the several State Govern ments, they were now approaching what he thought might be a final conclusion in regard to the Murray River. The report of the engineers indicated that the extent of irrigable land was limited to ly^ million acres, and the necessary works would cost, together with the ex penditure already incurred for scheme constructed or in progress, something like £650,000." ? * .* If the States . (said ~ Mr. Glynn), in view of the 'expert recommendations, would sit down and declare that they were prepared to finally settle the ques tion, then the Commonwealth Govern ment would give them some assistance, financial or otherwise, to enable the extra expenditure to be ;incurred. They were bound to see, with the storage works in progress, th...

Lamb Raising and Fattening. [Newspaper Article] — Irrigation Record — 15 September 1913

Lamb Raising and Fattening. By OBSERVER. AFTER some months' practical experi ence on the Yanco Irrigation Area many problems have come under my notice, on a few of which I will in the Record" endeavour to express my views from time to time. My remarks may be taken by your readers for what they are worth,'.but they may furnish food for reflection for the many settlers on this great experiment who are striving after light and leading. To my mind, the scheme is only in its experimental stages, but I am satisfied it will win through ultimately, and be come one of the most prosperous settle ments in Australasia. The subject I will endeavour to deal with in this paper is the; oft-discussed one of lamb raising and fattening. This subject may be considered premature, as the vexed and intricate question of the dry area lias not yet been settled, and it is of course all important to those settlers who may ultimately decide on attempting to bring this mode of making a livelihood to practical u...
