Our Sanitary System [Newspaper Article] — Deloraine and Westbury Advertiser — 17 December 1910

Our Sanitary System 0-e of tho crying needs of Delora n? ia a proper Sanitary system-the double pan for preference. The local Council some years ago abolished the old fashioned pit?, and pei mi t»i the present freo and eisy system in iU place. We suppo=e some sort of superti.' on is attempted, but obvionsly our In- spectors cannot visit every back-yard ii Deloraine weekly. If he gut round in a month besides attending to his other duties he would do very well, lt then appears the individual ratepayer can be as scrnpulons or otherwise ai he like?, within pretty extensive limits. It is reckoned rank heresy in most quarters to say so, brit the fa t remains the ordinary pan system, is," conditions being equal, worse and more obnoxious than the pits. The main puint for pans is in persistent cleanliness and regular removal. Given ths, the modera method are tbs best, but otherwise, it won]! hnv . been w'-er to have left mutera alone altogether. Horticultural Show. [Newspaper Article] — Deloraine and Westbury Advertiser — 17 December 1910

Horticultural Show. Since the year l890 the Deloraine Presbyterian Church haye organized and in most cases successfully car- ried out at stated periods, an Horli . cultural Show and Industrial Exhib- ition combined and on Wednesday afternoon last cilebrated their 32nd. anniversary. It is a great matter for regret, that such a large and im- portant agricultural district as this, eannot hold an agricultural show, especially when other 'towns, that perhaps do not lay claim to being as progressive as Deloraine, can aud do hold such gatherings. However credit to whom credit is due and success to the Presbyteaian». We i'ive our heartiest congratulations at this very 'com neudable effort to raise funds by such instructive and laudable means. Again the fact of them securing the services of the Government Horticultural, Fruit, Poultry and Bacon Experts must speak for itsself and it was pleasing to note that inquiries for advise etc. from them »a' very numerous and che visit by the Horticultu...

Children's Column [Newspaper Article] — Deloraine and Westbury Advertiser — 17 December 1910

: Children's Column : Marie was playing in the garden, and she was very lonely, tor her (wo sisters were away. She was much the youngest, but the others were very good to her, and she pHyed with them always when they were at home. Now she wandered dis- consolately about, and wondered ? what to do Then she had an idea. "I'll pick bellies," she said to her- self, 'and det leaves for plates. Then I'll matea dindin for dollies." Marie was only four, and she couldn't talk at all distinctly, though she tried very hard. So she picked benies, and leaves, and pretty little white stones, and laid them in the Bweetest dell, with great gum trees as a background, and flowers all round. When sl>e had finisehd, she sat down, and was going to pretend to pour out the tea, when, lo and be- hold, two little visitors hopped out of-i' the bushes and sat down beside her. Can Australia Adopt a Better Policy than the present? YES. [Newspaper Article] — Deloraine and Westbury Advertiser — 17 December 1910

Can Australia Adopt a Better Policy than thje present? YES. [Bv GOLDEN WATTLE.} Having in .my. two preceding articles set out the policy proposed in feferçnce, .fo /preigu trade, and commerce, ancLto~. the promotion of our. industries,. , ¡ti ¡s, nc^t-. required that the position of the Goverment , in regard to finance be considered. Before proceeding further I may mention to prevent misunderstand- ing that the policy is based upon the idea of either the adoption- of unification or else of a definite arrangement between State and Commonwealth as to proportions or rates charged by each The revenues proposed to be raised are therefore calculated as to cover the united functions of Slate and Commonwealth. From data to hand the amounts at, present raised by State and Commonwealth is somewhere about fifteen millions sterling, .nijd in- cluding proposed Federal'taxation, say sixteen million lt. is probably under this scheme the customs revenue will decline, and more be required from other...

But it's the same old yarn from the temperance side. Figures to start with figures to   finish with, always the same, it gets monotonous. When I first started on this subject here I did expect to get a change from the old old thing of years ago, but so far I havn't. Why doesn't some one attempt to disprove at least one of the truthful facts of the present day. in my last attempt which is the correct thing to do in my opinion.
