[ LIVE STOCK 1 [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 19 January 1907
[ LIVE STOCK 1 FEEDING ARRANGEMENT . All live stock should have suitable winter quarters , and the feeder who has not provided the same has tailed in his duty from both a financial and humane standpoint . Surely such neglect will bring worldy loss and not unlikely future judgment . We have known stock to stand shivering in open barns , the snow drifting beneath their feet . with sufficient material near at . hand to have made the enclosure quite comfortable . We have seen animals left at the mercy of the elements outside buildings practically unoccupied , simply because there had been no way provided to let them in . And we have seen stock miserable for lack of bedding , with straw or other good material for the purpose hard by . And again , we have not only known but experienced the loss of valuable animals because their quarters were insuEicient . Thus it is apparent that quite often there are facilities at hand which if properly used would be at once valuable . Friends , if you h...

COMMENTS ON MR . BUDINGHAM'S FEEDING . ' [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 19 January 1907
COMMENTS ON MR . BUDINGHAMS FEEDING . Mr . Budinghams experiments in feeding hogs , down in Muskingum Co ., O ., in I 860 , as published in The Ohio Farmer of Dec . 1 , was quite interesting reading to those of us who remember how hogs were fed then as compared with the present time . Farmers and townsmen alike were compelled by law to fence in their fields and gardens and hogs took possession of the streets and highways and all other territory not enclosed with a hog-tight fence . Hogs were grown first and then fattened , while today we grow and fatten at the same time . Mr . B . estimates that he got 10 lb . of live pork for every bushel of corn . This was pretty good for the grass hogs of those days , for they were very potty and it took several day s feeding to make them hold their own , just as it is with the grass steer ; besides they did not ring hogs then and they rooted off considerably . I was a lad of 17 then and remember that father took one with a big frame and full of ...

What Sulphur Does [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 19 January 1907
What Sulphur Does For the Human Body in Health and Disease . COSTS NOTHING TO TRY . The mention of sulphur will recall to many of us the early days when our mothers and grandmothers gave us our daily dose of sulphur and molasses every spring and fall . It was the universal spring and fall blood purifier , tonic and cure-all , and , mind you , this old-fashioned remedy was not without merit . The idea was good , but the remedy was crude and unpalatable , and a large quantity had to be taken to get any effect . Nowadays we get all the beneficial effects of sulphur in a palatable , concentrated form , so that a single grain is far more effective than a tablespoonful of the crude sulphur . In recent years research and experiment have proven that the best sulphur for medicinal use is that obtained from Calcium ( Calcium Sulphide ) and sold in drug stores under the name of Stuart s Calcium Wafers . They are small chocolate-coated pellets . and contain the active medicinal principal of sul...
