mom nntl Mttihw . [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural — 21 March 1868

mom nntl Mttihw . Writtenfor Tlie Western Rural . CORPORAL JENKINS . BY . . Corporal Jenkins was a soldier in the war , and for faithful services received the -warrant of a corporal in Company C , in one of the regiments of the Veteran Reserve Corps . Corporal Jenkins had uniformly saved twelve dollars a month from his wages , until 1863 , when he could save fifteen . He therefore had a little sum of money to enter civil life with when , on the last days of March , 186-, he was mustered out of the service . One thing had ever impeded the corporal s advancement in life , and his military experience had not served to improve him therein , and that was his proneness to lean on some one who should think for him—a most noble soldier to obey orders to the letter , but never moving without orders . Now his father was an energetic , driving sort of a man , who , however , did not accumulate profits , labored assiduously to instil into his son the maxim , that whatever you do , you must do w...
