Poultry and Bees [Newspaper Article] — Farmers Voice — 29 January 1898

Poultry and Bees Bee-Keepers Column . mierles and communications for this department should be addressed to J . 0 . Grlmsley , Byrdstow n , Tenn Notes From fly Diary BT J . 0 . 01 UM 8 LKT . Hives and Their Fixtures Now that we have the hive ready for a cover , I cant do better than show you the hive complete ( Fig . 7 ) and let you take a pattern . This hive , as you see it in the illustration , is the standard the world over . But more about the cover . Let it be made as you like , it must fit close , enough so to make the hive air tight , if possible , and when I say that , you will understand that it is to be also water proof . Now , while I have given sufficient instructions to enable you to make your own hives , you could probably buy them cheaper than you could make them , unless you are a mechanic , and have plenty of time . If your hives are to set in the sun it would be well to make the covers flat , and , over that place a shade board , or additional cover , made out of l...

Some men are afraid of death , some are not . Most of us would rather not meet the grim destroyer today . We would rather put it off until to-mor-row , or until next year . Mere wishes do not count for much in the matter . A man may not want to die . He may not want to 1 be sick . He may wish land hope and pray that he will not be one or do the other , but wishing and hoping wont help him . It is what he does , and not what he wishes that serve his purpose . If a man is losing flesh , and is nervous , irritable , sleepless and debilitated , he may wish he would get well , but one bottle of Dr . Pierce s Golden Medical Discovery will do more than an ocean of wishes . If a man is on the way to consumption , he should make a stop as quickly as possible . He should put on brakes . He neednt be afraid he has consumption if he will do the right thing—if he will just take the right medicine . The Golden Medical Discovery cures incipient and well developed consumption . Consumption is a ger...

The Farmers' Forum [Newspaper Article] — Farmers Voice — 29 January 1898

The Farmers Forum . The Farmers Forum invites communications all on subjects from whatever point of view , the editov of Tm TOIOK assuming no responsibility whatever for the Ideas expressed No communication should exceed 300 words is length . To the Editor—I have watched the columns of The Voice with anxiety for something from either editor or contributor upon the currency question , and I am tired of waiting and will make a few remarks myself , though I want to say in the outset that I am not a financier , only a plain farmer , and make no pretensions to being away up in financial science ; yet I have a pretty definite idea of what is proposed in the measures before congress . I have conversed with a considerable number of my fellow-farmers and also those of other vocations . I find great diversity of opinion , and I also find that many have no . other views than such ns they get from partisan papers and politicians . To begin with , there is a large class who have not the least do...

A HEALTHY WIFE Writes of Dr . Hartman s Kree Home Treat ment Mrs . F . M . Badgett , 819 New street , Knoxville , Tenn ., writes a letter for publication , which she desires all her suffering sisters to read . She writes : When I was 16 years old , I suffered with female weakness of the worst kind and spent all I had trying to get cured . I tried several of the best physicians , but they allfailedtocure me . I gave up all hope of recovery . Finally Dr . Hartmans treatment was recommen d e d to me bv mv teacher , who also lent me the money to get the medicine which Dr . Hartman prescribed . I took the treatment and it cured me . AN OPEN LETTER [Newspaper Article] — Farmers Voice — 29 January 1898

AN OPEN LETTER From Miss May Saohner , of Colum bus , O ., to Ailing Women . To all women who are ill : It affords mo great pleasure to tell you of tho benefit I have derived from taking Lydia E . Pinkham s Vegetable Compound . I can hardly find words to express my gratitude for the boon given to suffering women in that excellent remedy . Before taking the Compound I was thin , sallow , and nervous . I was troubled with leucorrhoea , and my menstrual pe riods were very * v r irregular . I tried three physicians and gradually grew worse . About a year ago I was advised by a friend to try Mrs . Pinkham s Sanative Wash and Vegetable Compound , which I did . After using three bottles of the Vegetable Compound and one package of Sanative Wash , I am now enjoying better health than I ever did , and attribute the same to Mrs . Pinkham s wonderful remedies . I cannot find words to express what a Godsend they have been to me .

Woman and Home [Newspaper Article] — Farmers Voice — 29 January 1898

Woman and Home The Happiest Heart AAho drives the horses of the sun Shall lord it but a day ; Better the lowly deed were done , And kept the humble way . The rust will find the sword of fame , The dust will hide the crown ; Ay , none shall nail so high his name Time will not tear it down . w * ~ * £ The happiest heart that ever beat Was in some quiet breast That found tho common daylight sweet , And left to heaven the rest . —John Vance Cheney . A Mother s Perplexity To the Editor : —In a very pleasant article which appeared in The Farmers Voice , headed Practical Philosophy , I find the following : Teach your boys and girls to be true and good , noble and brave ; but just the same dress them as other children are dressed , and dont make them conspicuous if you can help it . My heart goes out in sympathy for those children who are conspicuous for any reason whatever , for as the writer says their school life is very apt to be one long agony because of the ridicule of their mates .
