The Chicago newspapers give the foliowing account of an affair which occured in the office of J etce Vant wood, in that city, afew days since: J. R. B:rrow and I. Schoen. the Tremont House jewelry robbers, were brought up for a preliuinary examinaiion. By some strange over sight on the part of tim authorities, a warrant for the prisoners had not been procured. When the men were arraigned, Salerintendent Wash burn, on the part of the people, ask ed for a brief continuance, for the purpose of procuring the services of counsel. The justice refused to grant the continuance, and stated that the accused were before him without legal process, and that he had no right to detain them. They were therefore discharged from cus tody. As soon as these words were pro nounced Berrow aroso and started for the door. Detective IRyrrell however, was on the spot, and plac ing a hand on Berrew's collar, at tempted to detain him.
