On jmr 2 r0 ' ix months 1.85 There is something ot a dearth of political news in New Mexico, just at' the present time. Reports from all over the ter ritory indicate that there will be an immense fruit crop this year. The New Mexico visitors to Washington who have been there since the inauguration of McKin ley arc returning one by one. One fr $2.r0 It months 1.25 It is not likely that the Turko Grecian war will last more than a few weeks. The Dinglcy tariff bill will doubtless pass the senate by the 1st of July. The powers arc still talking about the status quo tor Turkey and Greece. A duty of from a cent to a cent and a half on hides is provided by the Dingley tariff bill. Statehood for the territories will probably be delayed until the money question is settled. I.ct congress pass the tariff bill and there will be prosperity as soon as business can be gotten under way. The visible supply of gold in the United States has increased over 575.000,000 since the begin ning of 1896. The new tariff bill will make sheep and wool growing the sur est and most profitable industry this territory. The cultivation of the sugar beet is bound to be the coming industry in the agriculture of New Mexico. There is now a ...

Une vwar 1 U months. . . 1.25 flie new tariff bill will come up in the senate next Tuesday. A protective tariff by encour aging competition is death to trusts. Greece did a lot of talking but .Turkey seems to be doing all the fighting. Only two' months of the repub lican administration, yet times are getting better every day. The air ship is now being seen in Kansas. And yet they say Kansas is a prohibition state. New Mexico is better adapted io the production of ti e sugar bctt than any other part of the country. Mexican cattle are being rush ed into the United States in an t tination of the passage oí the Diiigley bill. Last year's shipment of over 70,000,000 bushels of corn from the United States breaks all pre vious records. If months 1.25 The yield of gold from Alaska, this year, will be more than the entire territory cost. Work will soon be commenced jn earnest on the new capítol building at Santa Fe. The returns show that last year the people of New Mexico were the owners it 2,700,000 head of sheep and 810,000 head of cattle, and this is probably much less than the actual number. The Mining and Scientific Press lias the following to say of our pew mining law: "A law recently enacted by the New Mexico legis lature makes it impossible to do "lead pencil assessments" in that territory, and this law will result in a good many locations chang ing hands at nominal prices. Ninety days will be allowed in which assessment may be done, and it is a misdemeanor, punish able by fine and imprisonment, t lap new claims on older lo nations."
