Mills the man. The Republican* Nominate J. P. B. Mill* for the State Senate. The Republican Convention to nominate a candidate from this district to succeed Senator Mills, was convened in theShortt Hall yesterday evening at 3 o'clock. The meeting was called to order by Maj. H. C, Wood, of Scott county, and Maj J. W. Holdway was chosen tempor chairman. He was introduced to the c vent ion by Maj. Wood and made a short talk in which he dwelt on the advantges this county and section have derived from the protective tariff. He attributed all the development that has been made here to the policy*of the Republican party. He gave the Farmers' Alliancr. a little taffy but qualified bis remarks by 6aying that he could not support the sub-treas? ury scheme. Gco W. Blankenship was chosen secretary. A good deal of excitement was ?ausod iere Sunday evening l>y the reports that fait Hall, the murderer of police-officer ?iHon at Norton somo weeks since had been captured in Scott county. The ?veniog train from Norton brought in eeveral officers on their way to Gate City to identify and take possession of the prisoner. They showed a telegram from H. W. Holdaway, saying that Hall was in jail at Gate City. Every one seemed to be pleased with the news that Hail had been arrested. The officers from Norton accompanied by a Post reporter, left on the early traiu Monday morniug for Gate City. On ar? riving there and seeing the prisoner the officers failed to identify him as Talt Hall. The prisoner claimed to be from Russell county, but it is thought that he is the man wanted in North Carolina for murder. Great disappointment was caused by the news that Hall had not been captur...
