BIG small ad, small price mm • til . RESULTS Up next: A visit to New Orleans and the Saints, followed by a stop in “The Swamp,” the University of Florida. In the end, Peyton Manning and the Colts were too big an offensive hurricane for the Texans to withstand. Suffering a close, 30-24 loss, the expansion Texans earned leaguewide respect, something every great competitor — and Texans tailgater — covets. Driving on Interstate 610, you can see Reliant Stadium from miles away. Once inside this fortress, I found those fans that had been chugging plenty of cold ones in the parking lot, in a very vocal mood. During the opening introductions, they screamed out loud the last name of each starting Texan player that took the field. Reliant Stadium was loud and proud as their team hosted defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis. standing. “Of all the places in the state of California that this is a problem, San Diego is the No. 1 city,” Aguirre said, adding that San Diego imports about 90 percent of its water from the Northern California estuary and the Colorado River. Aguirre said current drought conditions in Southern California — combined with a recent federal court decision to restrict the amount of water pumped out of the San Francisco Bay estuary — should be enough for city officials to implement the alert. The public hearing announcement from Council President Scott Peters’ office came after Aguirre held a press conference Sept. 21 to urge the City Council to declare a Stage 2 water emergency in light of the looming water shortages expected next year. Council members will hear a report on the water supply from the County Water Authority and address a“ pass-through” for water and sewer rate increases. The increases are set to take effect Jan. 1, if approved. As City Attorney Michael Aguirre pushes for the decla...

THE BEACH IS Of EH f-rjh PUBLIC USE iWMHWGfS ALLOWED. BUT NOT RECOMMENDED DON BALCH | BEACH & BAY PRESS An appeals court recently ruled that the city must dredge Children’s Pool to clean up the bacteria and restore the beach to its 1941 condition. All sides are now waiting to see if the case will continue to be appealed at the next level. Peters has been against the appeals process but for joint use at the Children’s Pool, Hardy said. The State Supreme Court upheld Pate’s entire decision in favor of O’Sullivan. It will cost the city between $ 250,000 and $ 500,000 to dredge the sand that has built up at Children’s Pool, plus an additional $ 50,000 every three to five years. “That money would need to come out of the parks’ budget,” Hardy said. The Fourth District court upheld Pate’s decision. The city argued many points to no avail, mainly that “the language of the trust written by the legislature is clear and unambiguous.” The city unsuccessfully argued the trust clearly...
