.Thursday June 4 1953 Water Heat With the summer season ap­ proaching rapidly Fort Hood of­ ficials warned against hazardous [swimming and the dangers of sun Lstroke heat exhaustion and sun purn during the hot Texas season. When these symptoms occur the /ictim should be moved to a cool [shady place. He should lay on Jhis back with head and shoulders [raised and ice or cold wet cloths [should be aplied to his head. The 'body should be cooled gradually and stimulants should not be given safety officials recommend­ ed. Sun burn is caused by direct exposure to the sun or sun reflec­ tion it may be avoided by proper clothing or protection and a gradual sun-tanning according to a safety bulletin. A no-hitter plus an extra inning game and a record of 21 strikeouts by a pitcher highlighted the action on the baseball diamonds during the past week. Charles King of the 123rd AOB pitched the first and only no hit Page Six Boxing which had its beginning many years ago seems to rank as the number one spectator sport here at Fort Hood. Despite the fact that most of the boys are amateurs there is always a large crowd out every Sunday evening to witness all the color thrills pain and disappointment that goes along with every bout. Ending the CC"B" competition these winners will now sharpen their sights for the 1st AD and Fort Hood matches opening in Mid- June. Gen. Bruce C. Clarke who is now lead­ ing I Corps. In a letter to Maj. Gen. L. L. Doan present 1st AD and Fort Hood commander General Clarke VOL. 1 No. 23 49th AD Although a new division the 49th stems from an old military organ- izaiton the 72nd Infantry Bri­ gade Texas National Guard. Page Two Eighty-Three Boys The new regulation states that military personnel who violate traffic laws while operating a pri­ vate vehicle are responsible there­ fore in the same manner as civi­ lians. "Military safety officials are confident that service offenders of civilian traffic laws will be giv­ en fair and equitable treatment by the local law enforcement offi­ cers" the captain added. Fort Hood is planning closer cooperation with the local civil authorities in conducting educa­ tional and training campaigns to promote highway safety the captain further stated. "In our traffic schools—conduct­ ed here on the Post—we give in­ struction in the civilian laws. It is our desire that no one on Fort Hood be ignorant of either mili­ tary or civilian traffic codes" Captain Williamson added.
