PAGE 2 THE BASTROP COUNTY TIMES, SM1THVILLE, TEXAS 78957 THURSDAY, AUGUST 7, 1975 FA So* hw ti c 0* )ur/ inions Proponents of Vocational Education within the school system must have been on vacation, or at the very least asleep, when the education bill was passed by Texas' 1975 legislature. The bill spells disaster for Vocational Education in the very school systems which need it the most -- the poorer ones. According to the terms of the new bill, those students who take part in vocational classes are counted as absent from school for the length of those classes when the Average Daily Attendance figures are added up. It is these ADA figures which form the basis for state funds allotted to a school system. What it comes (town to is that a student who is enrolled in Auto Mechanics (a S hour per day course) is counted as attending school only one half day. The same for a student in Building Trades. Distributive Education students will be counted as pre- sent only one third of each day....

Not oneof you showed up to question the expenditures, stop the money from being spent, or even show a casual interest in how the decision was made. Possibly this represents how much faith and trust you have in your County Judge and County Commissioners Possibly it shows that you would rather gripe than work. Undoubtedly there will be complaints about how county money will or will not be spent. Some of the complaints will be loud and outraged None will be justified. If people will not take the time to get involved with what their county government is doing then they can't very well complain about what the county govern- ment has done The county did publicize the public hearing on the 76 budget, as is there duty, but possibly some of the bl...
